Martial arts brawler game for PC
Roof Rage is a premium action title made by developer Early Melon for PC. It is a martial arts-themed platform fighting game that lets players duke it out on rooftops in online duels or with up to multiple players at the same time via local gameplay.
Similar to Super Smash Bros. and the games that it inspired like Brawlhalla and MultiVersus, Roof Rage is also all about frantic combat on top of precarious platforms and dangerous conditions. What makes it standout is really its martial arts leanings that no other developer has tried before.
Rooftop throwdown
The platform fighter subgenre of action games was defined by Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. back in 1999 and subsequently, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in 2018. The long-running series is still the gold standard to this day when it comes to these types of games. Roof Rage is one of the more recent releases that try to mix things up with its distinct martial arts theme and retro design.
True to its name, you will primarily be fighting on top of rooftops in Roof Rage, of which there are 13 stages to choose from. You can play with up to eight players locally or 1v1 matches online. Pick from among 13 fighters with unique skills and attacks to figure out which one suits your playstyle. Use roof tiles as projectiles, wave dash, and perform smash attack finishers.
The game also features an Arcade Mode where you will fight against AI-controlled opponents, with nine difficulty levels. There is even one unlockable boss available. The experience is still rough around the edges, though, with occasional performance drops, level glitches, and some missing sound effects. Hopefully, these issues can be addressed and fixed as soon as possible in a future update for a more enjoyable experience.
An unpolished gem
If you've never played a platform fighter before, Roof Rage is a pretty decent first foray into the subgenre. It's a nice medium between traditional fighting games and the more advanced and technical gameplay of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Once its issues are fixed, it's going to be a really solid and fun game to have in your game library.
